Environment & Climate Change

Teachers participation in the UGC-STRIDE event of CUTN.

Centre for Climate Change Studies and Department of Media & Communication of Central University of Tamil Nadu organised a Two day Climate Change sensitisation program for school students of Thiruvarur District on October 20 & 21, 2022.

The event was conducted with the funding of University Grants Commissions (UGC) Scheme for Trans-disciplinary Research for India’s Developing Economy (STRIDE).

I was invited to deliver a lecture on Environment & Climate Change based on my experience in Western Ghats landscape. Concepts on Climate, Weather, Global warming, Endemism, Habitat, Migratory and Territorial animals, Myths and Facts on Wildlife, Abuse of Wildlife, Outcomes of bad tourism policies were explained to the students on October 20, 2021.

I was assigned to be the Guest of Honour in the Valedictory session presided by the Vice Chancellor of CUTN, Dr. M.Krishnan. My suggestion to include Climate Literacy and Digital Hygiene as regular subjects in the workshops conducted by Centre for Climate Change Studies was well taken by the Vice Chancellor.

He also expressed his willingness to accommodate the Trainers from Google News Initiaitive (GNI) to enhance the knowledge dissemination events conducted at CUTN.

Dr.Ravindran Gopalan, Dean, School of Communication, Dr.Nagarajan.S, Controller of Exams (in-charge), Dr.Velmurugan. P.S, Co-ordinator – UGC -STRIDE, Dr.Nagarathinam .S, Professor and Head at the Department of Communication at Madurai Kamaraj University, Dr.Jayakumar. S, Research Advisor at AVC College Mayiladuthurai, Mr. Natanam. C , District Co-ordinator of National Green Corps (NGC) also delivered lectures for the school students.
